The 3 Essential Steps To Help Keep Spam At Bay

-

Spam is a part of life for just about everybody these days. It seems there is no way around it. From emails to phone calls, there is a constant onslaught to get you to buy something or sign away your identity.

Spam is unwanted and unsolicited digital communication that clutters our inboxes. The biggest problem with spam isn’t just that it’s annoying. At best, it’s a waste of time to have to deal with. At worst, it can be a big security risk. However, there are some ways to combat this. In this article, we will go over how to get rid of spam and get on with your life.

1 – Tools and techniques

There are a lot of tools on the market these days to help block spam so it isn’t so pervasive. It is very difficult to erase it 100% but it can be managed so it is not nearly as annoying or dangerous.

For instance, anti-spam software and applications are specifically designed to identify and block spam messages. Most of them are updated regularly so they can stay ahead of the spammers.

Most email and messaging platforms come with built-in spam filters. These filters automatically sort out suspicious messages and place them in a separate spam folder.

Not all spam goes to emails, however. Spam calls are far more intrusive and dangerous. There are tools such as Incogni that will block spam callers based on your settings. Is Incogni worth it? It won’t get rid of all your spam calls, but it will definitely make them fewer and far between.

2 – Be proactive

Taking proactive steps is key to minimizing the amount of spam you encounter. One of the most effective strategies is using strong, unique passwords for your accounts.

The first thing scammers try to do is get control of your email or phone. They do this by using software to break into your account by guessing your password. Use a strong password that is not easy for this software to figure out.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is also a proactive way to keep your account safe. 2FA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. The code sent to another device makes it hard to break into your account even if the password is guessed.

3 – Stay up to date

Spammers are very cunning and never take a rest. This means they are always finding new ways to get your attention. It takes staying vigilant and up to date with the latest tricks they like to pull.

Regularly updating your software and spam filters is a key part of this. Software developers release updates called patches that fix security vulnerabilities. Don’t ignore updates to your software when they’re released.

Staying up to date on the latest news about cybersecurity is also a good way to combat spam. This way you can recognize some of the new methods scammers are using.
